Injured in southern Broward County

If you live or work in Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Hollywood, or Weston, you may wonder whether a Coral Gables law firm can handle a Broward County injury case. It can. Lopez Law, led by attorney Ily Lopez (Florida Bar No. 1027852), takes Florida injury cases, and the rules that decide most car, fall, and truck claims are state rules that are the same in Broward and Miami-Dade. This page covers Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Hollywood (including Hollywood Beach), and Weston, and it points to the roads, hospitals, and courthouses that are specific to this part of Broward.

Ily works in English and Spanish and meets clients by phone, by video, or in Coral Gables. The first consultation is free, and the firm charges no fee unless we recover.

Same state law, a different court system

Broward County is in Florida's 17th Judicial Circuit, not the 11th, which covers Miami-Dade. The 17th Circuit lists its main Judicial Complex at 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale 33301, and a South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood 33021, with public hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Under Fla. Stat. 47.011, a civil action may be brought in the county where the defendant resides, where the cause of action accrued, or where the property in dispute is located. A collision in Miramar or Hollywood therefore points toward Broward, even if the other driver lives somewhere else, and the choice of county can matter when other parties are involved.

Does Broward County change the deadline? No. For negligence claims that accrued on or after March 24, 2023, the general deadline to file suit is two years everywhere in Florida. The 50% rule is statewide as well: under Fla. Stat. 768.81(6), a person found more than 50% at fault for their own harm cannot recover damages. What differs from county to county is the practical side: which police agency wrote the report, which hospital treated you, and which court a case would reach.

What the Broward data shows

Broward's Safety Action Plan, a county effort led by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), analyzed crashes on surface streets from January 2018 through December 2022. It excludes I-95, I-75, I-595, Florida's Turnpike, and the Sawgrass Expressway. The technical report counts 250,729 crashes on those streets, including 4,832 in which someone was killed or seriously injured (KSI), with 1,014 people killed and 4,702 seriously injured. It found that 77% of the KSI crashes occurred on 6% of the streets. By mode, the KSI crashes included 259 involving bicyclists, 707 involving motorcycles, 762 involving pedestrians, and 3,104 involving motor vehicles. The MPO's safety page adds that, for 2017 through 2021, pedestrian crashes in Broward were nearly 15 times as likely as vehicle crashes to result in a severe injury or death, and cyclist crashes over 6 times as likely.

The MPO also publishes a high-injury network (HIN): the street corridors where a disproportionate number of crashes killed or seriously injured someone in the 2018 through 2022 data. The city sections below name some of the corridors on that network in each city. Being on the network does not prove that a road caused any particular crash, but it tells you which corridors county planners have flagged for their crash history.

Where serious injuries are treated

Florida's Department of Health trauma center list, last updated July 23, 2026, shows Memorial Regional Hospital as Level I and Broward Health Medical Center as Level I. Memorial Regional is at 3501 Johnson Street in Hollywood 33021. Memorial Healthcare System also runs Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Memorial Hospital Miramar, and Memorial Hospital Pembroke, each with an emergency room open around the clock; the trauma list above does not include them. Emergency crews choose the destination based on the patient's condition, so we do not tell anyone which hospital is closest. What matters for a claim is that you go, that every symptom is written down, and that you keep the records and bills.

Four cities at a glance

The four cities differ in what the public data shows. Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, and Miramar each have several arterials on the MPO's high-injury network, while in Weston the network includes a single stretch of Indian Trace. The freight picture also differs: FDOT's 2025 counts put I-75 through Pembroke Pines at about 190,500 vehicles a day and I-95 through Hollywood at about 249,000. And beachfront Hollywood has a kind of pedestrian and premises traffic that the inland cities do not.

An undated Broward MPO Complete Streets fact sheet groups Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Miramar, West Park, and tribal land together as Bundle I, and lists proposed projects such as Miramar Parkway from Douglas Road to SW 56th Avenue, 4.06 miles. A proposal is not a finding about any particular crash, but it shows that county planners treat these cities' arterials as a group.

What the safety plan leaves out

Because the Safety Action Plan covers surface streets only, crashes on I-95, I-75, the Turnpike, and the Sawgrass are not in its numbers. Those highways matter a great deal in southern Broward, especially for truck traffic, and each city section below uses FDOT's 2025 traffic counts to show how much freight they carry. Crashes on those roads are often high-speed and involve several vehicles, so the evidence is different: skid marks and debris fields, vehicle data, and records from commercial carriers.

First steps after a crash or fall

Call the police if anyone is hurt or if the damage looks like it will reach $2,000, which is the point at which Florida requires a report. Ask the officer for the report number and for the name of the agency that wrote it, since that determines where you request a copy. If you were in a car, Florida's no-fault (PIP) rules come first, and the 14-day deadline for your first treatment is the part that catches people off guard. Our PIP guide lists the dollar limits and explains the exception for emergency medical conditions.

Preserve what you can. Photographs, the names of witnesses, your medical records, and video from nearby businesses are all evidence, and some video systems record over themselves within days. Dashcam footage and phone photos should be saved in more than one place. Be cautious about recorded statements to another driver's insurer, and do not sign a release you do not understand. If a company vehicle or truck was involved, write down the business name and any USDOT number on the door or trailer. If you fell on someone's property, report it to the manager and ask for a copy of the incident report.

Recent crash news in Broward

WSVN and Miramar Police reported that a vehicle struck three pedestrians in a marked crosswalk at Miramar Parkway and Douglas Road on September 22, 2026, and that the investigation was continuing. Our Miramar Parkway crash post summarizes what was reported.

Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines stretches along Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Road, and University Drive, with I-75 and US-27 near its western edge.

Car accidents in Pembroke Pines

The Broward MPO's high-injury network, built from 2018 through 2022 crash data, includes several Pembroke Pines corridors: Pembroke Road (SR 824) from University Drive to the Turnpike, University Drive from the Davie Road Extension to Pines Boulevard, and Pines Boulevard from SW 168th Avenue to I-75. These are the main roads many residents use every day, which is why so many serious crashes in the city happen on a handful of arterials rather than on side streets. If your crash was on one of these corridors, note the nearest cross street and the direction you were heading, because that is how the crash report and any camera footage will be matched to your account.

FDOT's 2025 counts show how many vehicles use those roads: about 62,500 a day on one stretch of Pines Boulevard (SR 820), with a segment just past I-75 near 78,500, and roughly 55,000 on University Drive. Flamingo Road carries about 52,500 a day on one stretch and 45,000 on another. The MPO's network also includes Pines Boulevard from west of NW 78th Terrace to the Turnpike and Flamingo Road from SW 55th Street to Taft Street. On long arterials with many signals and turns, the questions that matter are usually who had the right of way and who was following too closely. If you were hurt, the first record is the crash report, and the second is your own: photographs, witnesses, and a note of the lane you were in. If the other driver had little or no insurance, your own policy may add coverage, so bring it to our first call. See our car accident page.

Slip and falls in Pembroke Pines

Memorial Hospital West, at 703 N Flamingo Road, and Memorial Hospital Pembroke, at 7800 Sheridan Street, are both in Pembroke Pines and list emergency rooms open 24 hours a day. After a fall, a prompt medical visit gives the claim a dated record, even if the pain seems manageable, because soreness often grows over the next day or two. Keep the shoes you were wearing and take photographs of the floor or walkway before it is cleaned or repaired. Under Fla. Stat. 768.0755, a spill in a business requires proof that the business knew, or should have known, of the condition. Fla. Stat. 718.113 makes the condominium association responsible for common elements, unless the declaration provides otherwise. Our slip and fall page explains the proof.

Truck accidents in Pembroke Pines

FDOT's 2025 counts put I-75 in Pembroke Pines at about 190,500 vehicles a day with trucks at 10.5%, roughly 20,000 trucks a day. On US-27, the segment between Pines Boulevard and Sheridan Street carried about 19,700 vehicles a day, 24% of them trucks, more than 4,700 daily. Federal rules allow a property-carrying driver no more than 11 hours of driving after 10 consecutive hours off duty, and they bar driving after the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty, so the driver's logs and dispatch records can show whether the limits were respected. Truck claims can involve a driver, a carrier, and their insurers. See our truck accident page.

Miramar

Miramar is crossed by Miramar Parkway, Red Road, University Drive, I-75, and Florida's Turnpike.

Car accidents in Miramar

Miramar Parkway appears on the MPO's high-injury network, built from 2018 through 2022 crash data, more than once: from the Turnpike to US-441, from Palm Avenue to University Drive, and from SW 148th Avenue to S. Flamingo Road. The Red Road and Flamingo corridor from S. Hiatus Road to the Turnpike is on the network as well. For anyone who lives in Miramar, that means the parkway you drive most often is also one of the corridors planners watch most closely. Because the parkway is long, note the segment and the nearest cross street; the exact spot decides which records exist.

FDOT's 2025 counts put Miramar Parkway near I-75 at about 59,000 to 61,000 vehicles a day, University Drive at 48,500, and Red Road (NW 57th Avenue) at about 57,000 on one stretch. On September 22, 2026, WSVN and Miramar Police reported a crosswalk crash at Miramar Parkway and Douglas Road; our crash post summarizes the report. Pembroke Road in Miramar carries about 43,000 to 50,500 a day, depending on the segment, and Palm Avenue about 28,500. If you were hurt at an intersection, signal timing, camera footage, and witness accounts often decide who is believed, and records about the signal may be available from the agency that operates it, so tell us the exact corner. Crosswalks are part of the picture even on roads built mainly for cars. The MPO's fact sheet also lists Miramar Parkway from Douglas Road to SW 56th Avenue as a proposed project, 4.06 miles. See our car accident page.

Slip and falls in Miramar

Memorial Hospital Miramar, at 1901 SW 172nd Avenue, lists an emergency room open 24 hours a day. If you fell in a store or restaurant, ask for the incident report and photograph the spot before it is cleaned. Fla. Stat. 768.0755 requires proof that a business knew, or should have known, about a spill. If the fall was on property owned by a city or the county, Fla. Stat. 768.28 generally requires written notice within three years and suit within four, with caps of $200,000 per person and $300,000 per incident. Take photographs of the spot, any wet-floor sign or the lack of one, and the lighting. Write down the names of employees you spoke with, and see a doctor promptly. A prompt visit helps to link your symptoms to the fall. See our slip and fall page.

Truck accidents in Miramar

Two freight corridors cross the city. FDOT's 2025 count for I-75 between Miramar Parkway and Pines Boulevard is about 178,000 vehicles a day with trucks at 10.5%, roughly 18,700 trucks daily. Florida's Turnpike in Miramar carries about 108,500 a day, with trucks at 6.5%, about 7,050 daily. Truck cases often turn on records the carrier holds. Florida also sets minimum liability coverage for commercial vehicles by weight: $50,000 for 26,000 to under 35,000 pounds, $100,000 for 35,000 to under 44,000, and $300,000 for 44,000 pounds and up, and the statute also points to federal minimums. Insurance minimums are a floor, not a measure of what a claim is worth. See our truck accident page.

Hollywood

Hollywood includes Hollywood Beach and a wide inland grid of arterials, with the Broadwalk on the ocean side and US-1, US-441, and I-95 to the west.

Car accidents in Hollywood

The MPO's high-injury network, built from 2018 through 2022 crash data, includes several Hollywood corridors, among them US-441 from Griffin Road to N. 59th Terrace, US-1 from Sheridan Street to Polk Street, Griffin Road from US-441 to SW 30th Avenue, and Hollywood Boulevard from the Turnpike to N. Circle Drive. If you were hit on US-441, US-1, or Griffin Road, note the nearest business or cross street, the time, and which side of the road you were on. These corridors pass many driveways and storefronts, and a precise location makes it easier to find camera footage before it is recorded over and to match your account to the crash report and to what witnesses say. Separately, the Broward MPO's bicycle and pedestrian plan flags Hollywood Boulevard from the Turnpike to N. 58th Avenue as a statistically significant crash hot spot.

FDOT's 2025 counts put Hollywood Boulevard (SR 820) at roughly 42,500 to 52,000 vehicles a day by segment and Sheridan Street at 54,000 on one stretch. Hollywood Boulevard and Sheridan Street are busy corridors with heavy foot traffic, so details such as the crosswalk, the signal, and the driver's view are central. A driver and a pedestrian often each believe they had the right of way; independent witnesses and camera footage then become the key evidence. Motorcycle riders face their own insurance questions after a crash, so tell us if you were on a bike. Write down the time, the lane, and the direction of travel while you remember them, and keep every medical bill. See our car accident page and pedestrian page.

Slip and falls in Hollywood

The city describes the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk as a brick-paved promenade of nearly 2.5 miles, shared by pedestrians, joggers, bicyclists, and rollerbladers. Falls and collisions can happen on any shared path, at beach access points, around crowded storefronts, and in hotel and condominium lobbies, pools, and parking areas. Who is responsible depends on who owned or controlled the spot: a hotel, a condominium association, a restaurant, or a government body. The Broadwalk is a public promenade, but the buildings, pools, and parking structures along it belong to many different owners, so the first task is to pin down exactly where you fell. A photograph that includes a nearby storefront or sign can fix the location later. Wet tile in a lobby or on a pool deck is a typical example of a transitory hazard.

If a private business is responsible and the hazard was a spill or wet floor, Fla. Stat. 768.0755 requires proof that it knew, or should have known, about the condition. For condominiums, Fla. Stat. 718.113 makes the association responsible for maintaining common elements, unless the declaration provides otherwise. If the spot belonged to a city, a county, or the state, Fla. Stat. 768.28 generally requires written notice within three years and suit within four, with caps of $200,000 per person and $300,000 per incident. The notice rule is strict, so do not wait.

For a serious fall, Memorial Regional Hospital is at 3501 Johnson Street. If a case is filed in Broward, the 17th Circuit's South Regional Courthouse is at 3550 Hollywood Boulevard. Photograph the surface, any lighting problems, and warning signs, and keep your shoes and clothes. Ask the hotel, condominium, or store whether cameras cover the spot, and request in writing that the footage be preserved. See our slip and fall page.

Truck accidents in Hollywood

I-95 through Hollywood carried about 249,000 vehicles a day in FDOT's 2025 count on one stretch, with trucks at 7.5%, roughly 18,700 trucks. Sheridan Street between US-441 and N. 56th Avenue showed trucks at 11.5% of about 40,500 vehicles, and Florida's Turnpike through Hollywood carried about 151,300 a day with trucks at 9.7%. Because a carrier must keep records of a driver's duty status and supporting documents for at least six months, a preservation letter should go out early. Evidence in a freight case also includes the dispatch file, the truck's maintenance history, and the driver's qualification file. A truck crash often involves a driver, a carrier, and sometimes a broker or maintenance company. See our truck accident page.

Weston

Weston lies in western Broward, around Royal Palm Boulevard, Weston Road, I-75, and US-27. FDOT's 2025 counts show Royal Palm Boulevard between Weston Road and the bridge at about 56,000 vehicles a day, and Weston Road at roughly 17,200 to 31,000 depending on the segment. On US-27, FDOT counted about 17,500 vehicles a day with trucks at 19.8%, roughly 3,500 a day, so a collision there can easily involve a loaded truck. The Broward MPO's high-injury network includes one Weston corridor, Indian Trace from Tequesta Tree Park Lane to Willow Drive. One corridor is a thin basis for conclusions, so we do not claim to know which Weston roads have the most crashes. After a crash or fall in Weston, get the report number, take photographs, and see our car accident, slip and fall, and truck accident pages.

South Broward injury questions

I was hurt in Pembroke Pines. Does Broward County change the deadline?

No. The deadline is set by state law. For negligence claims that accrued on or after March 24, 2023, Florida generally allows two years. Claims against a government body have notice rules, and older claims may differ. See our deadline guide.

Do you take Broward cases from Coral Gables?

Yes. Lopez Law is based in Coral Gables and takes Florida injury cases, including Broward cases. Ily meets clients by phone, by video, or in Coral Gables.

I fell on the Hollywood Broadwalk or at a beachfront hotel. What should I do?

Get medical care, photograph the spot, and report the fall to the manager so there is an incident report. Who is responsible depends on who owned or controlled the area, and claims against a government body have special notice rules. Call us and we can talk it through.

A truck hit me on I-75 or the Turnpike. What should I do?

Get care, ask the officer which agency wrote the report, and write down the company name and USDOT number. Do not give a recorded statement to a trucking insurer yet. See our truck accident page.

Will I have to pay to talk with you?

No. The consultation is free, and the firm charges no fee unless we recover.
