On September 1, 2026, Local 10 and CBS Miami reported a crash in the northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near Northwest 41st Street, before Exit 29 in northwest Miami-Dade. A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Authorities have not said how many vehicles were involved, what caused it, or whether anyone else was hurt.
If you were in that backup, I know how this feels. The cars are still on the shoulder, your neck already hurts, and somebody from an insurance company will call before you even get home.
This is not a rare stretch of road. Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise said the Turnpike system had 68 fatal crashes and 81 deaths in 2025. That is why I tell people to get checked after any crash, even if they think they walked away fine. Highway crashes hide injuries, and so do the ones on side streets.
Ask for the crash report number before you leave if you can. Slow down and move over for Road Rangers and deputies. In Florida, PIP generally requires you to start treatment within 14 days if you want help with medical bills. Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurer before you talk with a lawyer. Most injury claims here have a two-year filing deadline, so the clock starts whether you feel ready or not.
