Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians in Florida
Florida law requires any driver involved in a crash that injures someone to stop, remain at the scene, share their information, and give reasonable help, such as calling for medical aid. Leaving the scene of a crash that causes injury is a felony in Florida, and the penalties increase with the seriousness of the injuries. When a driver leaves, investigators usually work backward from what remains: vehicle debris and paint transfer, surveillance and traffic cameras along the corridor, and tips from the public. Busy commercial roads like State Road 7 often have cameras at businesses and intersections, which can help identify a vehicle. When a driver is never identified, the injured person's own uninsured motorist coverage often becomes an important part of how the losses are handled.
Thoughts are with the man injured in this crash and with his loved ones.
