One man died and another was taken to a hospital after a motorcycle crash on Sunrise Boulevard near Florida's Turnpike in Plantation late Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2026, CBS News Miami and WSVN 7News reported.

Plantation police told CBS News Miami that two men were riding the same motorcycle when the driver lost control. Investigators said no other vehicles were involved. The crash happened around 4:40 p.m. on Sunrise Boulevard between Florida's Turnpike and Northwest 47th Avenue.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was taken to a hospital, and his condition has not been released. Authorities have not released either man's name.

Several lanes in the area were closed for hours Saturday evening while officers worked the scene. The roads later reopened. The crash remains under investigation.

Single-vehicle motorcycle crashes and riding with a passenger

When police say a rider "lost control" and no other vehicle was involved, investigators still look at the whole picture: road surface and debris, the lane layout near the Turnpike ramps, lighting, speed, the condition of the motorcycle and its tires, and whether another vehicle may have played a role without making contact. Carrying a passenger changes how a motorcycle handles, adding weight and affecting braking and balance. Riders have far less protection than people inside a car, so even a crash with no other vehicle can cause severe or fatal injuries. A passenger who is hurt is in a different position than the operator, and depending on the facts and the insurance involved, a passenger may have a claim even when only one vehicle was in the crash.

Thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and with the man who was hurt.
