On September 7, 2026, Local 10 reported a fatal motorcycle crash at Bird Road and Red Road in Miami-Dade County, just outside Coral Gables. Florida Highway Patrol put the time at shortly before 4 p.m.
According to Local 10, a Hyundai Sonata traveling west on Southwest 40th Street (Bird Road) turned onto Southwest 57th Avenue (Red Road) into the path of a motorcyclist. The rider struck the side of the sedan and fell from a Kawasaki. FHP Lt. Alex Camacho said the motorcyclist died at the scene. Authorities had not publicly identified the rider. Local 10 said troopers had not said whether the Hyundai driver would receive a citation or face charges. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
When a left turn crosses a motorcycle's path
At busy Miami-Dade arterials like Bird Road and Red Road, a left or turning move that cuts across a motorcycle leaves the rider with almost no vehicle body for protection. A side impact can throw the rider from the bike in a single hit. Florida Highway Patrol looks at yield rules, how the turn was made, sight lines at the intersection, and how the vehicles came together. Local 10 said the investigation is ongoing.
