A driver has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash in a Deerfield Beach neighborhood nearly six months ago, Local 10 News, WSVN 7News, and CBS Miami reported on October 20, 2026.

The crash happened shortly before 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Northeast Third Avenue and 44th Street, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. Investigators said a northbound 2023 Land Rover Discovery rear-ended a Nissan Rogue that had stopped at 44th Street. The impact sent the SUV into the southbound lanes, where it struck a Nissan NV200 before rolling to a stop near the sidewalk. The Rogue also rolled and came to rest against the front porch of a home.

A 59-year-old woman riding in the Land Rover was ejected and died at the scene. Other people were hurt; Local 10 reported that three drivers were taken to Broward Health North.

Investigators determined the Land Rover was traveling between 98 and 102 mph as it passed a business where the posted speed limit is 30 mph, and between 79 and 87 mph when it struck the Rogue, Local 10 reported. CBS Miami reported that prosecutors said surveillance video captured the SUV before the collision.

The 63-year-old driver was arrested on Monday, October 19, on charges that include vehicular homicide, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and seven counts of reckless driving involving damage to a person or property, according to jail records cited by Local 10. These are accusations. The driver is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court, and the case remains ongoing.

Speed, rear-end impacts, and ejection on neighborhood streets

Residential streets in Florida often carry 25 to 30 mph limits because they mix driveways, stop signs, and people walking. Speed changes the outcome of a crash: the energy a vehicle carries grows with the square of its speed, so an SUV at about 80 mph carries roughly seven times the energy of the same SUV at 30 mph. A stopped car that is rear-ended at that speed has no chance to move out of the way. Rollovers raise the risk of ejection, which is why seat belts and side curtain airbags matter. In serious crashes, investigators often rebuild speed from surveillance video, roadway marks, and the data recorders built into many modern vehicles. The criminal case moves on its own track through the courts, and charges can come months after a crash.

Thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who died and with everyone hurt in this crash.
