Electric Scooter Crash in Little Havana Early Sunday

On September 27, 2026, NBC 6 and WSVN reported a crash between an electric scooter and a vehicle in Little Havana early Sunday morning. NBC 6 said Miami Police arrived around 2:44 a.m. at Southwest 22nd Avenue and First Street after reports of a scooter crash. WSVN described the scene along Southwest First Street in that same corridor.

According to NBC 6, officers found two people unconscious at the scene. Miami Fire Rescue took a male and a female to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, WSVN reported. Authorities later said one of those people died at the hospital. NBC 6 said the other person remained in critical condition. Officials had not released their identities. Scene coverage from both stations showed a red SUV with windshield damage and a damaged scooter on the roadway. WSVN reported that the scooter appeared to have struck the side of the SUV, breaking a rear-view mirror, and that a person struck the windshield. WSVN also said the driver stayed at the scene. Miami Police are investigating. The cause of the crash has not been released.

When an electric scooter meets a passenger vehicle

An electric scooter has almost no body structure between a rider and the pavement. A passenger SUV has far more mass and a taller profile. In an early-morning urban intersection like Southwest 22nd Avenue and First Street in Little Havana, low light and limited protection can turn a short conflict into life-threatening injuries in one impact. Scene damage such as a broken side mirror and a shattered windshield can show how the scooter and the vehicle met, but it does not by itself answer fault or speed. Investigators still have to reconstruct rest positions, evidence markers, and what each witness can verify. NBC 6 and WSVN reported that those questions from the September 27, 2026 crash remain open.
