On September 16, 2026, Local 10 reported that a driver crashed a car into a Dollar Tree in Marathon. NBC 6 later reported the same crash at 10966 Overseas Highway in the Florida Keys. Monroe County deputies responded, and Local 10 said an investigation was ongoing.
According to Local 10, video shows the car speeding up as it turned toward the store and plowing through the front of the business. The station said the store was left a mess, with shelves knocked down and merchandise scattered, and that authorities reported only minor injuries. NBC 6 reported that two people at the store suffered minor injuries but did not need to be hospitalized. NBC 6 also reported that a 72-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Honda CR-V, and that it appears she lost control while trying to park. Local 10 and NBC 6 said the crash remains under investigation.
When a parking turn reaches the storefront
A parking lot and a retail aisle sit only a curb and a glass wall apart. When a vehicle accelerates into that opening, the cabin, the shelving, and anyone standing near the front can take the force in one motion. Local 10's video description of the car speeding up as it turned toward the Marathon store matches that pattern, and NBC 6's account that investigators believe the driver lost control while trying to park is still for Monroe deputies to finish documenting. Local 10 and NBC 6 said the Overseas Highway Dollar Tree scene was under investigation after September 16, 2026.
