On September 2, 2026, Local 10 and WSVN reported a multi-vehicle crash near Northwest 51st Terrace and Northwest 33rd Avenue in northwest Miami-Dade. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies with a robbery intervention detail had stopped a vehicle when the driver fled.
News outlets identified that driver as 21-year-old Luis Manuel Perez. Deputies said he ran a stop sign and struck another car. The impact caused that vehicle to roll over. The vehicles also struck an unmarked MDSO unit. One civilian driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died. Reports identified him as Stefan Germaine Davis, a 55-year-old Bahamian artist. The deputy in the unmarked unit was treated at the scene and was reported OK. Perez was taken into custody. MDSO Traffic Homicide is investigating.
When a driver flees a stop and a rollover follows
Fleeing a traffic stop often means high speed, ignored stop signs, and sudden turns on neighborhood streets. A side or angular hit can put a car on its side or roof. Rollovers are hard on everyone in the struck vehicle, and other cars in the intersection can be pulled into the same chain of impacts. Florida traffic homicide units look at speed, the stop-sign violation, and how the vehicles came together. Local 10 and WSVN said the investigation is ongoing.
